free them …

In 1980’s Britain there was a social upheaval which had not been seen since WW2 .. unemployment was up at 3 million , interest rates and inflation in double figures .. people could not pay their mortgages and so their homes were repossessed .. London and many towns had a “Cardboard City” where people lived .. there where riots in several cities .. bands like UB40 and U2  (names that came from the unemployment forms that had to be filled in by us) gave us music like 1 in ten

The song “free them” is about that time, a song about hope, here we are again 30 years later, this time it’s zero hours contracts, food banks, tens of thousands waiting for public housing, lost youth again …

“in recent times in this country … no-one seems to know what to do”
